When my name was called out as the scholarship recipient to attend INTIX 2024, I honestly could not believe it! It had been on my wish list to attend INTIX to learn more about the ticketing world and it felt like my dreams had come true.

And wow – what an experience to be in Las Vegas with over 1,400 ticketing professionals from 36 countries! It seemed fitting that we were gathered in a city that hosts hundreds of live events each night.

The conference commenced with a choice of venue tour. I chose to visit the Smith Center for the Performing Arts, which opened in 2012. This art deco inspired venue is extremely impressive, from the architectural and design features to box seating on the first level, from cup holders beside each seat to retractable seats for an orchestra pit.

There was so much choice with the conference program. With up to 10 options to choose from per breakout session, it was not easy choosing which session to attend. A highlight for me was Angela Higgin’s session on why we sometimes need to break the rules. I also enjoyed hearing from keynote speakers, including the first black American woman to lead an NFL team about her career and commitment to excellence in terms of the fan experience, and an arts administrator turned educator who challenged us to understand our hidden biases and embrace diversity.

From the insights shared throughout the conference, it was interesting to learn the similarities in the Australian and US markets – for example, audiences buying tickets late, many shows struggling to sell tickets and consumers inadvertently overpaying for tickets on the secondary ticket market. As to the differences, I cannot comprehend that drip pricing is permitted – argh!!!

I had such a wonderful time at INTIX, in large part due to the relationships forged with the other Aussies in attendance, and am extremely grateful that the scholarship made this possible. Thanks so much to Ticketing Australia, INTIX and Today Tix for sponsoring
